Calculate your estimated Blood Alcohol Content based on drinks consumed, weight, gender, and time elapsed. This calculator uses the Widmark formula for BAC estimation.
| Total Alcohol Consumed | 0 oz |
| Total Standard Drinks | 0 |
| Time to Zero BAC | 0 hours |
| Status | Sober |
This calculator provides estimates only. Never drink and drive. BAC varies based on metabolism, food intake, medications, and other factors. Use a designated driver, taxi, or rideshare if you've been drinking.
This blood alcohol calculator is only an approximation. It’s not a breathalyser and it won’t tell you how much booze is in your blood. This can only be done with approved testing equipment. Body type, metabolism, food and a lot of other things a formula cannot account for. So everybody’s outcomes are pretty diverse. Do not use this or any other online blood alcohol calculator to judge if it is safe for you to drive. There are big ramifications to making that choice, and guessing is not the greatest way to do it. Drive sober or be pulled over. When you’ve been drinking, get home safe.

Your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is a measure of the amount of alcohol in your blood. Here, a BAC of 0.08% equates to 0.8 units of alcohol for every 1,000 units of blood in your body.
In most places in the US, you can drive if your BAC is 0.08% or under. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood. That is 0.08 percent. But in Scotland you can only have 50 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood that is 0.05%. Canada’s legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08 percent, although most jurisdictions penalize persons for being over that limit, typically around 0.05 percent. These numbers might be false because some places have substantially lower limits for new young or business drivers. Discover what the rules are in your area today, instead of trying to remember one number.
The main thing to understand about these limits is that they are there to make sure people follow the law. They don’t mean it’s safe to drive. Your reaction time, judgement and coordination might get a lot worse, lower. 08%, and it can happen after just one drink. A blood alcohol calculator isn’t going to tell you definitively whether or not you are okay to drive. It can only provide you with a BAC level calculator.
Most blood alcohol calculator use the math from the Widmark formula. It was created by a Swedish doctor in the 1930s. This is the default technique today, but fresh research has shown many faults, which we’ll discuss in the next section.
Calculation:
The number of hours since the first drink is subtracted from the metabolic rate to determine the blood alcohol content (BAC).
It is a measure of how much alcohol is distributed in bodily water. normally, their body water quantities are different hence it is normally around 0.68 for men and 0.55 for women. This is an average over a bunch of people, not a fact about any one person.
The metabolism rate is generally considered to be roughly 0.015% BAC per hour, which is a fair rule of thumb for how quickly the body metabolizes alcohol.
Here’s a working example utilizing made-up numbers to teach math. Suppose a made-up 180-pound guy had two normal beers over two hours.
One standard drink is about 28 grams of pure alcohol or 14 grams per standard drink. About 81,650 grams is 180 pounds. With a ratio of distribution of 0.68.
Before metabolism, BAC = 28 ÷ (81,650 × 0.68) = 28 ÷ 55,522 = 0.00050, or 0.050% as a blood alcohol percentage calculator.
This walkthrough is just to show how the math works; it’s not meant to be used as advice for real people or situations. This method is based on a lot of numbers, like body weight, drink strength, time, and metabolism. At most, it gives you a rough idea. This is the reason why the next part is so important.
This is the most crucial part of this page, so read this before you trust whatever amount a blood alcohol estimator tells you.
The Widmark formula employs average population figures. Your body doesn’t operate on averages it operates on your own biology, and a whole host of factors can push your real BAC much higher or lower than any BAC estimation calculator predicts:
So, with all blood alcohol calculator the only way you get a real, measured BAC reading is with a certified breathalyzer applied properly or an actual blood test. This blood alcohol calculator is at best an educated guesstimate based on averages that may not be representative of your actual physique.
Any estimated BAC blood alcohol calculator is only as good as the drink information you enter, and what you mean by “one drink” changes based on what you’re having. The amount of alcohol in a drink, not the size of the glass or can, is what makes it a standard drink:
Drink Type | Typical Serving Size | Typical Alcohol % | Approx. Pure Alcohol |
Beer | 12 oz (355 ml) | ~5% | ~14 grams |
Wine | 5 oz (148 ml) | ~12% | ~14 grams |
Spirits (straight) | 1.5 oz (44 ml) | ~40% | ~14 grams |
Each of these is made to have about the same amount of pure alcohol, which is 14 grams in the US (although this varies a bit from country to country). If you pour a lot of craft beer, wine, or a mixed drink with several shots, it can easily hold two or three normal drinks, even though it looks and feels like “one drink.” Any blood alcohol level calculator you use will only be right if you count standard drinks correctly and not glasses or cups.
If you’ve had any alcohol and are wondering whether you’re OK to drive, stop worrying and pick one of these instead:
An estimated BAC below the legal limit does not mean safe to drive. Never make that decision after you’ve started drinking Plan your ride home before you start drinking.
Not very, like, providing you an exact, reliable number. Online blood alcohol calculator employ population average formulas like Widmark’s, which don’t take into consideration your specific metabolism, dietary intake, hydration, or body composition. Any result should be regarded as a rough educational approximation only and never as an accurate personal reading.
It depend on where you are at. Most US states and England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have a 0.08% limit. In Scotland the limit is 0.05%. The criminal threshold in Canada is 0.08%, while most provinces have administrative fines at around 0.05%. Limits are typically lower for novice, young or commercial drivers. Note: Restrictions fluctuate always check current local law.
No And never use this calculator (or any BAC calculator) to decide if you are safe to drive. Impairment can occur considerably below any legal limit and this equipment cannot assess your real blood alcohol content. If you have been drinking, arrange for a sober driver to take you home.
BAC formulae are averages that don’t consider individual biology. Your body weight, your sex-based distribution ratio, whether or not you have eaten, your level of hydration and your own unique metabolic rate all play a part in how alcohol actually behaves in your specific body. This is why the same drinking patterns can lead to quite different real BAC levels in different people.
Alcohol takes hours not minutes to fully metabolize (metabolized in the body at a more or less constant rate throughout time). There’s no real method to speed this up coffee, cold showers and food won’t get alcohol out of your blood system any faster. Time is the only true variable, so plan your moves on that instead of assuming when you’ll be clear.
A standard drink is determined by the amount of alcohol, not the size of the container. as the US standard is about 14 grams of pure alcohol which is. This is roughly the same quantity of pure alcohol as 12 oz of normal beer (~ 5%), 5 oz of wine (~ 12%), or 1.5 oz of spirits (~ 40%) Larger glasses, blended drinks or more alcoholic drinks can have more than one normal drink in one glass.
The blood alcohol calculator is designed to help you understand how BAC estimation works. It is not meant to inform you if you are ok to drive. It ‘s based on the Widmark formula which is population averages Your actual body your metabolism what you ate your hydration your meds can put your true BAC much over or below what any calculator forecasts. Only a professional breathalyser or a blood test will reveal the real reading. If you’ve had any alcohol at all, don’t run the numbers and hope for the best. Call a rideshare, call a sober friend, take public transit or just remain put till you’re actually sober. Make that decision before you start drinking. So that impaired judgement never gets a say.
