You can use the same method for any date on a specific date, past or future. This is useful for legal documents, making sure someone is eligible at a certain point in time, or just learning about the past.

Given the same birth date of March 14, 1995, what age was the person on July 4, 2010?

2010 – 1995 = 15, and March 14 had already passed by July 4 of that year, so there’s no need to make any changes. It takes 3 months and 20 days to go from March 14 to July 4.

As of July 4, 2010, the answer is 15 years, 3 months, and 20 days.

What’s the Age Difference Between Two People?

This finds the difference in age between two people between two dates, given in years, months, and days, rather than just their age.

People A and B were both born on January 22, 1992, and June 10, 1988.

Person A was born in 1992, so the difference between that date and 1988 is four years. However, since January 22 falls before June 10, take away one year to get three years. That’s seven months and twelve days left, from June 10, 1991, to January 22, 1992.

The answer is that Person B is 3 years, 7 months, and 12 days younger than Person A.

You should know that the year and months’ numbers stay the same no matter what date you look at it, because it’s the space between two set birth dates. For each person, that’s not the same as their age, which changes every day.

Leap Years and End-of-Month Dates: Where Calculators Disagree

This is where two pearson age calculators can really give you different answers, even if you give them the same dates. It comes down to two rare situations that most tools don’t talk about.

Birthdays in leap years. Every four years, someone born on February 29 has a real birthday. In the other three years, their birthday has to be celebrated as either February 28 or March 1. There isn’t a single rule that applies to all situations; rules vary by location and even by jurisdiction.

These days, parents and health visitors don’t count years when they keep track of a baby’s age. Instead, they count weeks and then months.

Three Age Calculations That Work Differently

Corrected (Adjusted) Age for Premature Babies

Youth Sports Age Eligibility

Leagues for youth sports use a set date to decide who is eligible. This means that a player’s “league age” for a season may not be the same as their real age, depending on when their birthday falls in relation to that date. Dates and rules for cuts depend on the organization, division, and season, and they change from year to year.
